County manager reports audit work, safety meetings, TIGER closeout and plane crash near Angel Fire

At the July 15 meeting the acting county manager told commissioners the FY24 audit wrap-up remains in progress and that staff will complete required supplemental financial documentation and financial-policy updates needed to close out the county’s TIGER grant by its September deadline.
The manager said county safety meetings will resume monthly on the last Monday of each month and encouraged commissioner participation. He also notified the commission that Bernalillo County — which houses youth the county uses for detention — had increased its per-diem rate to $475 per day.
The manager reported a recent aircraft crash that occurred after a plane departed Angel Fire Airport; the pilot did not survive and the wreckage is being removed under NTSB supervision. He said the site was on state land near the Collin Niblett Wildlife Area and that county and village officials had been coordinating on the incident.
The manager said the county will continue work with S&P Global on rating matters and with the audit team to conclude outstanding items, and that he has engaged outside assistance (JAG) to complete a financial supplement that a previous fiscal agent had not finished. Staff will bring a revised financial policy and supplement back to the commission before the TIGER closeout deadline.
No formal actions were required on these informational items; commissioners thanked staff and asked for continued updates as work proceeds.
