Public works staff described the first emergency at Oakwood Road as a line with cables running through the sewer and visible obstructions requiring dewatering and excavation. The council approved a contract with United Brothers Development Corporation for the Oakwood Road repair for an amount not to exceed $100,000. City staff said they had contacted telecommunications companies and will pursue cost recovery if a third party is found responsible.
The council also approved an emergency agreement with Petticoat‑Schmitt for a repair at America Avenue and Republic Drive for an amount not to exceed $90,000. Staff said the repair intersected an area where paving had been staged and that having the contractor already working nearby reduced costs and scheduling impacts.
Council members asked staff to pursue reimbursement from any responsible private utility or contractor and to contact affected residents as repairs proceed. Both motions passed on roll‑call votes; each carried unanimously.
