Colfax County commissioners on July 15 approved requests asking the New Mexico Department of Transportation to waive the county match for two Local Government Road Fund projects, reducing county outlays estimated at about $33,699 and $46,676.
County staff said the county sought the waivers because of current financial constraints. The commission approved resolution 2025-58 for control number L400711 (county match $33,699) and resolution 2025-59 for control number L400718 (county match $46,676). Commissioners voted unanimously to approve both waiver requests.
A commissioner thanked staff (identified in the record as Heidi) for submitting the waiver applications given the county’s financial condition and noted NMDOT had recently approved a similar waiver for the Bartlett Mesa paving project. Staff indicated they expected NMDOT to be receptive to the requests.
The approvals direct staff to proceed with submitting the formal waiver documentation to NMDOT; final approval of the waivers rests with the state agency and is not guaranteed by the county action.
No additional budget authority was recorded at the meeting for these projects; the motions were limited to approving the resolution authorizing submission of the waiver requests.
