Board reviews final music maps and updates to AP biology and ELA curriculum

Doctor Uchef said the music maps — advanced music theory, high‑school honors orchestra, high‑school orchestra, middle‑school orchestra, music production 1 and 2, high‑school band and high‑school honors band — represent nearly the final phase of a multi‑year curriculum-writing cycle. Director Hartman asked whether Advanced Music Theory should be limited by prerequisite (concern about ninth‑grade enrollment); Doctor Uchef said staff would verify prerequisites and report back.
For science, Doctor Uchef said the district was not in a full science writing year but made updates to AP content to align with revised AP expectations; the administration provided both a clean revised AP biology map and a change sheet showing redlined changes. For ELA, Doctor Uchef said this was the K–12 ELA writing year; English III and Honors English III were completed before the end of the school year with modest differences in rigor and resource selections noted.
Board members were told additional curriculum maps will come to the board in August and that professional development at kickoff will include time to review these changes. No final votes on curriculum maps were recorded at the July meeting; the materials remain available for committee and board review.
