Lake City — The Lake City Council on July 21 adopted an ordinance amending the City Code to include the conclusive cancer-presumption provisions established in Florida Statute section 112.1816.
City Attorney Martin read the ordinance by title, describing the measure as an amendment to section 70-127(b) of the City Code to incorporate the state’s conclusive cancer presumption language. “...an ordinance of the City Council of the City of Lake City, Florida amending section 70-127 paragraph b of the City Of Lake City code of ordinances to add the conclusive cancer presumption provisions of Florida statute as established by section 112.1816 Florida statute,” the attorney said while reading the title for the record.
With no public comment offered on the item, a councilmember moved to adopt ordinance 2025-2326 on second and final reading. The motion was seconded and passed on a unanimous roll-call vote: Harris, Carter, Young, Jernigan and Mayor Walker recorded yes votes.
The ordinance’s text entered the municipal code to mirror the state statute’s presumption provisions; the council did not debate the substance during the meeting and made no additional amendments. The action brings the city code into alignment with the cited state law and will take effect consistent with the ordinance’s effective-date provisions.
