The Safety Harbor City Commission approved a one-year extension of the Safety Harbor Spa parking-lot major modification site plan, moving the site-plan expiration date to Aug. 5, 2026. The motion passed unanimously, 5-0.
Carol Strickland, community development director, explained that the original site-plan major modification (20-23-15 SD) had been approved Aug. 5, 2024, with a condition that a driveway easement be obtained under Veterans Memorial Drive. Strickland said the applicant obtained the required easement agreement (approved by the commission on June 16) and that construction plans were approved on July 1. She added that the code allows a one-year extension for good cause if requested at least 30 days prior to expiration; the applicant submitted a timely request roughly 60 days before expiration and cited the time needed to negotiate the easement as good cause.
The modification area comprises about 0.8 acres of the 15.4-acre resort campus and includes a 63-space parking lot and retention pond. Strickland said no new regulations had passed since the original approval that would alter the findings. With the extension, the site plan would now expire on Aug. 5, 2026, unless construction permit activity establishes a new timeline.
The commission approved the extension 5-0.
