Adam Trimble, planning manager for building and planning, asked the commissioners to set a public hearing for a planning-commission-recommended amendment to the county comprehensive plan map for an area northeast of Castle Rock along the Toutle River. "This is a recommendation from the planning commission," Trimble said, and he requested the board set a hearing date for Aug. 12. Trimble described the proposal as a map change that would reduce the minimum lot size for affected parcels from five acres to two acres, allowing additional subdivision potential for the properties included in the amendment. "If the request of the property owner is granted, then at least his property could be split three times," Trimble said, and he said the planning commission recommended including nine additional properties to make the map designation more consistent across the neighborhood. Trimble said property owners in the area were generally supportive and that the change was justified by localized development interest and the existing mix of lot sizes in the area. He identified nearby reference points for the commissioners and said the formal hearing on the planning-commission recommendation will be scheduled for Aug. 12, when commissioners will hear the full presentation and be able to take public comment. No vote was recorded at Monday’s agenda review; the request was to set the hearing date and bring the full package back for consideration on the August hearing date.
