The Bridgeport Borough Council on July 15 approved a resolution naming the borough manager as chief administrative officer for the borough police and non‑uniform pension plans and authorized advertising an ordinance intended to align borough code with recent collective bargaining agreement language.
According to a July 11 memorandum distributed to council, a review with pension advisers found a discrepancy between the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and borough code regarding post‑retirement DROP account options for police. The CBA had previously eliminated one option—retaining funds in the borough DROP account—and the borough has adhered to the CBA practice. The proposed ordinance would amend Chapter 72, Section 35 of the Borough of Bridgeport Code to match current practice.
A council member described the action as a housekeeping update requested after review by accountants and auditors. The council moved and seconded the resolution and the motion carried on voice vote.
No ordinance language was read at length during the meeting; council authorized advertising the ordinance so it may be formally introduced and considered at a subsequent meeting. The resolution and the ordinance advertisement do not by themselves change benefits; they begin the formal process to amend the borough code so the code and the CBA are identical on the addressed matter.
