County opens bids for jail food services and fairgrounds curbing; staff to review for compliance

Graham County supervisors on July 21 opened procurement bids for two items: the county jail food-service contract and a fairgrounds curbing and sidewalk project. The board voted to refer both bid packets to staff for compliance review and recommendation to award to the lowest responsible and compliant bidder.
For the jail food-service contract (a five-year solicitation), county staff said contractors must meet nutrition and caloric requirements set by state statute and must maintain a nutritionist on staff. Two bidders were identified in the public opening: Trinity Services Group (packet included multiple original copies and nutrition analysis) and Summit Food Services (current contractor). The board instructed the sheriff’s office and Board of Supervisors staff to jointly review the proposals and return with a recommended award after verifying compliance with specifications.
For the fairgrounds curbing and sidewalk project, staff opened three bids and read the totals into the record: K E and G Construction Inc., $207,311; Rod E. Schlessinger dba HT4, $135,628.51; and ALK Asphalt, $116,482. The board voted to refer the bids to staff for conformity review and to award to the lowest responsible, compliant bidder.
Both matters were referred to staff so that technical and statutory compliance — including state meal requirements for the jail contract and construction specifications for the curbing project — can be verified before a formal award is made.
