The Board of Public Works and Safety on March 27 set a status review for April 10 for 6332 Garfield, directing the owner to hire a licensed contractor to address a damaged chimney and to provide photos confirming yard cleanup and removal of an unsightly fence.
City staff said the contractor who previously prepared a quote, Roof Masters, was not licensed in the city. Staff provided the owner several licensed contractor referrals and Commissioner Farrell (who formerly worked in tuckpointing) offered to inspect the chimney and confirmed the chimney should be replaced.
The owner, Miss Redfield, told the board three contractors had inspected the roof and had promised to send written quotes; she said she expects to prioritize the chimney repair before fence work. Staff agreed to visit the property and take photos to confirm the yard cleanup and fence status before the April 10 status hearing.
The board emphasized the two-week status was intended to ensure the owner had hired a contractor and begun necessary repairs; it did not set a requirement that the work be finished by that date.
