Graham County supervisors on July 21 approved a modification to a cooperative agreement between the Coronado National Forest and the Graham County Sheriff’s Office that adds roughly $6,000 to the existing grant to cover overtime when deputies patrol Mount Graham.
Sheriff PJ Allred told the board that the Forest Service previously had no assigned law-enforcement officer permanently stationed on Mount Graham for a period and now has one officer who covers multiple areas; Graham County deputies support patrols there and the grant funds will pay overtime when deputies do that work. “We do get some additional monies. So that’s a good thing for us,” Allred said.
Supervisor Howard noted the county was able to carry over unused funds from the prior allotment rather than losing them. Howard moved to approve the grant cooperative-agreement modification; Chairman Mac seconded, and the board approved the motion by voice vote.
The modification is intended to reimburse overtime and operational costs when county deputies perform patrol duties related to the Coronado National Forest’s Mount Graham area. No additional terms or dollar schedules beyond the approximately $6,000 increase were read into the public record during the meeting.
