CARMEL, Ind. — The Common Council on July 21 adopted a resolution encouraging and promoting volunteerism and community engagement and discussed working with JustServe, a volunteer‑matching platform, to centralize city and nonprofit volunteer opportunities.
Councilor Joshi, sponsor of the resolution, said he and Mayor Finkham met with JustServe and that the platform is an open, volunteer‑led system that would allow city events, nonprofits and charity organizers to post volunteer needs at no direct cost to the city. He said the resolution and the accompanying outreach would help draw volunteers to city events and to local nonprofits.
Councilors expressed support; several noted that the resolution’s endorsement is a first step and that the platform is not yet live for city listings. Councilors asked staff to coordinate implementation, and Joshi said the city would return with a live rollout and communications when the platform is ready.
Why it matters: a single volunteer portal could streamline recruitment for city events, nonprofits and service organizations and reduce duplicative internal development costs, supporters said.
Next steps: staff will work with JustServe on onboarding and a public announcement once the platform is ready to accept city event listings.
