Health board reviews final community health assessment, plans committee for improvement plan

Carter County Public Health staff presented the final community health assessment to the Board of Health and outlined next steps for sharing results with the public and convening a community health improvement planning committee.
Public Health Administrator said she emailed a link to the final report and brought a printed copy to the meeting, noting file-size limits prevented emailing the full document. "I did bring one printed copy. Somebody wants to peruse through it," she said. Board members discussed making copies available for public inspection at the clinic waiting room, library, senior center and the county office and placing a notice in the local paper and on the department's Facebook page.
Board members and staff discussed dissemination logistics: how many printed copies to produce (staff mentioned not printing 100 copies), where to place them for public viewing, and putting an announcement in the newspaper and on the public-health website. A board member suggested the hospital and clinic boards be given the survey findings to solicit partnership on issues raised about local clinical services.
On priorities, public-health staff identified dental care access, behavioral/mental health, and outreach/education as themes that recurred in the survey and as likely candidates for the next community health improvement plan. The administrator clarified that the improvement plan is a convening and planning process and that public health would typically act as convener rather than sole provider of services.
Board members discussed forming a multi-stakeholder committee. The administrator said the state DPHHS may offer assistance; she encouraged board members to read and digest the report before participating in planning. No formal vote was recorded; the discussion concluded with an offer from board members to help convene stakeholders and to continue the item at a future meeting.
