Officials from the county airport, KLJ engineering and commissioners discussed timing and requirements for two airport projects: an AWOS installation and pavement maintenance.

Staff said Southeast Electric requires a small easement and meter fee (around $300) before KLJ can finalize bid documents for the AWOS. KLJ will advertise the AWOS procurement and host a public bid opening on July 2; KLJ said it will provide a Teams link so commissioners and the airport board can attend the opening remotely. Commissioners and staff also discussed finalizing easements and coordinating with landowners so the solicitation can proceed.

Separately, pavement maintenance bids were reviewed. Staff reported a recommendation to award the pavement contract to CR Contracting (the recommended figure reported at the meeting was roughly $1.06 million); KLJ will review bids and prepare a recommendation for formal county action. Commissioners asked staff to ensure documentation is complete before bringing a contract award back for commission approval, and to consider contractor availability and scheduling in the award decision.

Airport and county staff also noted other airport items that may need budget adjustments once bid results and final grant/contract details are known. No final contract awards were made at this meeting; staff expect to present award recommendations for formal approval at a subsequent meeting.
