The Walworth County Board Executive Committee approved a $40,000 amendment to the capital project fund on July 14 to complete a Community Education Center study and allow the county to execute a vendor contract.
Staff said the county originally budgeted $60,000 for the study in the 2025 budget but vendor bids left roughly a $40,000 shortfall. The presenter said staff is also researching a potential PSTAP grant that, if awarded, might cover the additional cost and possibly more of the study expense; if that grant is successful the county could use the grant funds in place of the transfer identified in the amendment.
During discussion, a committee member noted the large communications and public-safety radio upgrade program planned or underway countywide and referenced a finance presentation. Staff said the total communications project costs are roughly $22,000,000 and included redundancies such as using Whitewater and Lake Geneva as backups.
The amendment was approved by committee vote to allow contracting while the grant application is still pending.
