Commissioners authorize pursuit of lease-purchase for TotalPatcher pending council approval

Marshall County commissioners authorized the highway department to pursue a lease-purchase agreement for a TotalPatcher road patching machine to secure the vendor’s pre-Aug. 1 price, provided the County Council approves funding at its Aug. 11 meeting.
Jason, representing the highway department, told the board that TotalPatcher will raise its price for new machines to $104,500 after July 31; orders placed before that date would be honored at $99,500. Jason said the county budget includes $99,000 for the machine and asked the commissioners to allow staff to negotiate a rent-to-purchase arrangement to lock the lower price while final council funding is confirmed.
Commissioners discussed options including a rent-to-own or a short extension from the vendor and the need to coordinate with the County Council because the council sets certain budget appropriations. Commissioner comments noted that the next council meeting is Aug. 11 and that any additional appropriation would need to be advertised and processed in time for that meeting.
The board voted to authorize Jason to contact TotalPatcher and pursue a lease-purchase agreement pending County Council approval on Aug. 11; the motion passed by voice vote. The highway department will work with council members and budget staff to seek formal council support before finalizing the transaction.
