Jeff Parker, a Sweet Home resident, asked the Park and Tree and Beautification Committee during public comment July 16 for permission to place a memorial bench at Strawberry Park honoring a neighbor who died in February. Parker said the family will help with the bench cost and provide a plaque made by his daughter; he told the committee he and staff (Angela) would work together to find a location that allows viewing of the park without impeding public-works activities. A committee member asked whether the family would also like a tree by the bench; Parker said he would welcome a tree if public works confirms a species that will not interfere with an adjacent community garden. Staff said they will follow up with Parker with a pricing comparison and location guidance; no formal action or vote occurred at the meeting.
