Depoe Bay staff outline new harbor security cameras, cloud monitoring and live-stream plans

City staff updated the council on a state small‑government grant to pay for new security cameras at the harbor and related sites and described how the system will be monitored and used.

Kim said the Oregon State Marine Board enlarged the city’s award and that the city had already purchased camera hardware. The system vendor is Verkada; Kim said installers were scheduled to kick off work soon. She described cloud-based access for staff and the ability to search footage by visual attributes (for example, clothing color) and said the system could support live-streaming of the boat launch to the city website.

Kim said she had attempted to partner with the U.S. Coast Guard for a camera but ran into additional requirements such as archaeology and endangered‑species reviews and that the grant requires work to be completed by June (the packet condition). The city will monitor footage in the cloud and staff said multiple users will have access for incident review and operational uses.

Kim provided a rough accounting: the city had already paid for an initial batch of cameras (staff said approximately $9,000 in city funds for first purchases) and the grant would cover additional camera and installation costs. She said the city will monitor the system, and that the Port of Newport also uses Verkada.
