The commission approved purchase of a We Go Round inclusive merry-go-round from ATHCO for $80,026.60 using Greenbush cooperative sole-source procurement. Staff said the unit is designed for children and adults of varying abilities, including wheelchair users, and includes safety features such as a speed-resistance mechanism and an integrated safety-turf surface (concrete base and surfacing included).
Parks staff said installing the unit at Hammond Park, adjacent to the community center, will allow accessible sidewalks and parking access to the playground. Staff also said coordinating this purchase with the broader Hammond Park equipment buy will save an estimated $10,000 to $15,000 in shipping and installation costs.
Commissioners approved the purchase after viewing a presentation and a supplier video demonstrating the unit’s accessibility features. Staff described the procurement as sole-source through the Greenbush cooperative purchase program and noted that the equipment’s design is unique in its on-board wheelchair access capability.
