City commissioners approved a supplemental development agreement with Salina 2020 to allow use of downtown TIF and other local funds for a $1.6 million shade structure on Ash/Santa Fe and related parking work.
The Salina City Commission on June 23 approved a supplemental agreement with Salina 2020 that will allow the use of downtown tax-increment (TIF) funds and other designated downtown resources to construct a large shade structure at Ash and Santa Fe and to fund improvements to the adjacent Temple parking lot.
City staff said the shade-structure estimate is roughly $1.6 million; the Temple parking-lot reconstruction and enhanced lighting and sidewalk work totaled about $383,000 in the current scope. City finance and economic-development staff described the agreement as a reallocation of funds already identified in the downtown redevelopment financing plan and the Fieldhouse off-site parking account.
The commission voted 4–0 to approve the supplemental agreement and authorized the mayor to execute it. Salina 2020 (a downtown-focused nonprofit) is expected to proceed with final design and procurement steps under the terms of the agreement.
