At 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, the Terre Haute City Council held a reorganization meeting during which members selected Councilperson Todd Nation as council president and Councilperson Dinkel as vice president, designated the Tribune Stars as the city's newspaper of record, deferred board and commission appointments and adjourned.
The council opened with roll call; all councilmembers answered present. The first order of business was nominations for council president. After nominations closed, the presiding official declared that Todd Nation would serve as council president for 2025 by acclamation.
The council then moved to select a vice president. Councilmember Azar nominated Councilperson Dinkel; with no further nominations, the presiding official closed nominations and declared Dinkel vice president by acclamation.
Members next considered a motion to designate a newspaper of record. Councilperson Dinkel moved to designate the Tribune Stars as the newspaper of record; the motion was seconded (recorded in the transcript as seconded by a councilperson). The council voiced support and the presiding official said the motion carried.
The clerk asked whether the council wanted to make any appointments to boards and commissions at that meeting or defer them; the council moved those appointments to next week and indicated its council committee assignments would also be handled next week.
A motion to adjourn was moved by Councilperson Azar and seconded by Councilperson Chalos; the council voted in favor and the meeting was adjourned.
The actions at the meeting were procedural: the council established internal leadership for 2025, confirmed a newspaper of record and deferred appointments and committee assignments for a subsequent meeting.
