At its July 1 meeting, the Tupelo City Council approved a slate of appointments to senior city positions, including public-safety chiefs and department directors.
The council unanimously approved the appointments of Don Lewis as chief operating officer; Kim Hannah as chief financial officer; Ben Logan as city attorney; Kizzy Guy as director of human resources; Tanner Newman as director of development services; Lucia Randall as director of the downtown Main Street Association; John Kwaka as chief of police; Brad Robinson as fire chief; Kelly Knight as director of public works; Alex Farned as director of parks and recreation; Kevin Kirkpatrick as director of Cadence Bank Arena; Stephanie Comer as director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau; and Johnny Timmons as director of Water and Light.
Why it matters: The confirmations fill leadership roles that oversee city operations, finance, public safety and economic development and set the administration's management team for the coming term.
Details: Each appointment was moved, seconded and approved without recorded opposition. Council members and staff exchanged brief remarks of welcome and thanks to outgoing and incoming leaders during the meeting.
Next steps: Newly appointed department heads are expected to assume their duties; council and staff did not set additional agenda items tied to the appointments during the meeting.
