School committee approves reallocation of funds for McMahon roof, structural work and cafeteria ceiling upgrade

LEWISTON, Maine — The Lewiston School Committee on Monday approved a request to reallocate funds for additional structural work discovered during the McMahon roof project and to replace the cafeteria ceiling while the building is open for repairs.
Facilities staff told the committee the roof replacement revealed structural issues that were not part of the original budgeted scope. The district also removed obsolete ductwork while the ceiling was open and proposed installing a new cafeteria ceiling rather than piecing together old tiles.
Member Elizabeth Eames moved to approve the reallocation and to forward the proposal to the city for final processing; the motion was seconded and carried by unanimous roll call except for one member absent. Committee members asked whether other project accounts would close; staff said most would, with the exception of an LMS electrical account.
