McLeod County commissioners on July 15 approved a quote from PCCS Inc. of New Hope, Minnesota to replace and install batteries for the government center uninterruptible power supply (UPS) at a cost of $18,362, to be paid from the information-technology budget.
IT Manager Matt Troska told the board the existing UPS batteries are five years old and that the typical lifespan for the batteries is four to six years; he recommended replacement to avoid UPS failure. A second quote from Graybar of Brooklyn Park was $27,180.
Commissioner Schmalz asked about the batteries’ specifications; Troska said they are designed to fit the UPS form factor and are rechargeable, long‑cycle batteries intended for this equipment. Commissioner Smalls made the motion to approve the PCCS quote and Commissioner Wright seconded; the motion carried.
Staff said the replacement work will be done during working hours and did not provide a specific installation date at the meeting.
