CARROLLTON, Ga. — Carroll County Schools recognized employees and students for statewide and regional honors and the superintendent's office outlined operational details ahead of the Aug. 1 start of school, including free meals for all students under the district's community eligibility provision.
Dr. Ainsworth told the board that Villa Rica High School teacher Robin Porter was recognized by the Georgia Department of Education and State Superintendent Richard Woods with the Innovation in Computer Science Award and invited board members to visit her classroom. She also said Bowden Elementary received a John Hancock proficiency ribbon for an elementary cursive-writing initiative and that about 1,400 staff members have completed the district's “Capturing Kids' Hearts” training.
Students Luke Peters and Anna Claire Daniel earned first place in the EMT category at the state host competition, Dr. Ainsworth said; their teacher, Christopher Smith, attended the meeting with them. Bus driver Fred Smith was named West Georgia Bus Driver of the Year after seven years with the district.
On operations, Dr. Ainsworth said the district provided free nutritious meals during the summer Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to noon and reminded the community that, as a community eligibility provision district, Carroll County Schools provides free breakfast and lunch to all students regardless of income. She listed upcoming events including teacher induction, a district convocation, and cluster school visits for the Aug. 1 first day of school.
These items were recognition and informational reports; the board took routine procedural votes elsewhere in the meeting to approve the agenda, minutes and consent agenda.
