The St. Tammany Parish School Board on July 17, 2025 approved retirement resolutions for multiple certificated employees and employee support services staff, reading each retiree's name, school or department and years of service.
During the meeting Mr. Alfonso read the lists of certificated retirees — including Lisa F. Selzer (Boya Junior High, 33.81 years), Stephanie D. Creel (Folsom Elementary, 25 years), Cicely C. Prestridge (Harrison Curriculum Center, 29.8 years), Nancy E. Rhodes (Harrison Curriculum Center, 27 years), Bridget Thomas (Leroux Junior High, 27.99 years), Stephen J. Gremillion (North Shore High, 25.99 years), James M. Stevens (Salmen High, 31.52 years), Karen R. Evans (Slidell High, 14 years), Joseph L. Favre (Slidell High, 34.67 years) and Charice H. Giles (Trafalgar/Briadle?) along with service years as read into the record.
A board motion to accept the certificated retirement resolutions was moved by Ms. Hanson and seconded by Ms. Rutherford; the item carried unanimously. Board members offered brief remarks about several retirees, thanking them for long service. One board member said Ms. Selzer "has been an amazing teacher," and another praised the work of the longtime band director at Salmen High. Members also offered personal thanks to Charice H. Giles, noting her impact as a teacher.
The board then approved retirement resolutions for employee support services personnel, with Mr. Alfonso reading names and years (including Donald C. Dupree, Alton Elementary, 20.22 years; Corinne C. Blanchard, central office, 33.71 years; Deborah P. Guerrero, central office, 33.06 years; Wade C. Gottschalk, Covington Warehouse, 33.02 years; and others). That motion was moved by Miss Gallaher and seconded by Mr. Cousin and recorded as approved unanimously.
Why it matters: the board formally documents retirements so the district can process final personnel actions and publicly recognize long-serving employees. Several board members used the public record to thank retirees and highlight their contributions to individual schools and programs.
No formal policy changes or budgetary actions were recorded in the retirement resolutions beyond the approvals of the resolutions themselves.
