Matthew Zinn, vice president of the Imperial Valley 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Committee, told the council the committee will hold its annual memorial stair climb at the Imperial Fairgrounds on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, with a ceremony about 7:30 a.m. and the stair climb beginning around 8 a.m.
"Our memorial stair climb is a way for the community to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice on 09/11/2001," Zinn said. He said participants climb or walk the equivalent of 110 stories carrying a name and photo of a fallen first responder.
Early registration is open for $25 through Aug. 22; on‑site registration on the day of the event was described as $35. Zinn said registration and sponsorship information is available at www.iv911.org and that sponsorship levels listed in the packet correspond to symbolic amounts tied to that day's history. He said vendor participants may register at no charge in exchange for donating 10% of on-site sales to the Imperial Valley 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb 501(c)(3).
Proceeds will fund three scholarships at Imperial Valley College (one each for fire, police and EMS) and support development of a permanent Imperial Valley 9/11 Memorial at the fairgrounds. Zinn also announced a public safety gala planned for Oct. 3 and a first‑ever valleywide public safety awards program to recognize one officer per agency.
The presentation was informational; no council action was requested.
