The Nashville Sports Authority voted to extend and adjust the contract and pay for its executive director on a voice vote during its meeting at Geodis Park.
The board approved a one-year extension of the executive director’s contract, an adjustment of the title to president and CEO, and a total salary increase to $235,000, actions recommended unanimously by the personnel committee and supported by the finance committee.
The personnel committee reported that the change reflects “increased responsibilities as new venues have been constructed,” and noted that the authority will supplement Metro compensation with sports authority funds to reach the $235,000 total. The committee emphasized that, under the authority’s bylaws, the board sets the director’s pay.
Director Don Dearing presented the personnel committee’s recommendation and said the committee unanimously approved the changes. Dan Hogan, chair of the finance committee, described a comparative compensation analysis that showed the authority’s prior pay level lagged peers and said the adjustment places the position slightly above the 50th percentile nationally. Hogan said the finance committee supported revisiting the CEO title language but otherwise recommended approval.
Board members moved and seconded adoption of the personnel committee report; the board then approved the recommendation by voice vote.
No further changes to the contract language were read into the record during the meeting, and no alternative compensation figures were proposed. The board discussion in the meeting focused on comparators, responsibilities due to new venues, and alignment of pay-setting authority with the bylaws.
