District 57 presented a summer personnel update July 17 that listed recent hires, outstanding vacancies and fall calendar dates, and recommended Janet Rothwell to fill a newly open assistant principal role at Lincoln.
Superintendent and staff told the board that, as of July 11, personnel recommended for hire included nine teachers, one social worker, two psychologists, one instructional coach, one board-certified behavior analyst and one assistant principal. Support-staff hires included four instructional assistants, a Kid's Corner supervisor and a Kid's Corner assistant. The district reported current vacancies at the time of the meeting: one first-grade teacher, three instructional assistants and one part-time Kid's Corner assistant.
The district recommended Janet Rothwell for the Lincoln assistant principal position. Staff summarized Rothwell's background in classroom and administrative roles, cited prior dean experience and said the candidate had worked in nearby districts and held leadership roles; staff said they would provide mentoring support if the board approved the hire.
District leaders also shared key dates for the 2025-26 school year: staff institute days on Aug. 18'20, the first day for grades 1'8 on Aug. 21, kindergarten starting Aug. 25 and preschool beginning Aug. 28. Staff invited the board to upcoming welcome-back events and a facilities walkthrough in August.
Board members asked how current vacancy levels compare with prior summers and whether the district was optimistic about filling the remaining openings; staff said they were encouraged by hiring results and by the quality of recent candidates for specialized roles such as psychologists and the board-certified behavior analyst.
The board did not take a final roll-call action on the recommended assistant principal during the meeting packet discussion excerpt, but staff indicated they planned to present a contract for board approval during the consent agenda or new-business voting steps.
