Board Hires MGT for Elementary Boundary and Demographic Study

The Laramie School District Board of Trustees approved a contract with MGT to perform demographic analysis and consulting related to elementary school boundary adjustments. The administration recommended using MGT’s baseline demographic service—consistent with the vendor’s prior work for the district—so that the committee can examine objective data about enrollment, facility capacity and neighborhood changes. Superintendent Dr. Goldhart said boundaries have not been adjusted in about 23 years and that the recent consolidation of a lab school prompted the review. Chief Operations Officer Wilkerson will chair a stakeholder committee composed of parents, teachers, administrators and board members. MGT will analyze current and historical demographics and present up to three boundary recommendations for board consideration; one recommended outcome could be to make no change if the data support that outcome. The board approved the contract and asked staff to proceed with the committee process and a timeline that will likely extend through the next school year; administrators said any boundary changes would be implemented only after public outreach and with ample lead time for families.
