School Committee expands middle school building committee membership, appoints community representative Julie Morgan

The Longmeadow School Committee on July 16 voted to amend the middle school building committee roster to allow three community members knowledgeable about the district’s education mission and appointed Julie Morgan to serve as a community representative. The committee said the change aligns with Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) expectations for building committees and will preserve continuity after a recent membership shift: Julie Morgan had represented the committee while also serving as a school committee representative through June 3, 2025, and asked to continue as a community member. “I’m certainly excited to have Julie stay on the committee as a community rep. She’s so knowledgeable and experienced and thorough,” the committee chair said during the meeting when the appointment motion passed unanimously. Committee members noted that the middle school project remains on a calendar that includes important public voting opportunities this fall. The chair reminded residents to watch for tour opportunities and emails about the Williams Middle School and other events ahead of September votes. The committee recorded the motion to amend the roster and the subsequent appointment; both motions carried by roll-call vote with all members voting yes. No executive session or additional staffing directives were announced during the meeting.
