The board approved a contract with Education Alternatives to place 15 students for the 2025–26 school year at a tuition cost the meeting read as $613,522. The board also approved two additional summer ESY (extended school year) payments: $4,498.03 to Applewood Centers Inc. for one student’s summer ESY services at Gerson School and $5,800 to Education Alternatives for another student’s recently authorized summer ESY placement. Meeting materials indicated both ESY payments were general fund expenditures tied to newly qualified services.
Separately, the board approved an amendment to the nursing-services agreement with Akron Children’s Hospital to provide nursing for kindergarten screenings; the amendment increased the contract by $1,978, a general fund expense, according to the agenda.
These items were included in the board’s consent and new-business agenda and were approved by the board during the meeting.
