Tampa recommends $1 million for social action and arts fund in FY26 after reductions
Summary
City finance staff proposed reducing the social action and arts fund from nearly $3 million to $1 million for FY26, with a recommended allocation of $100,000 per council member and $300,000 for council programs; city-owned cultural assets were excluded from the reduction assumption.

Dennis Rejero, chief financial officer, told the City Council that the social action and arts fund will face reductions in the FY26 recommended budget, falling from nearly $3 million in the current year to a proposed $1 million.
Rejero said staff recommend setting aside $100,000 for each council member and $300,000 for council-wide funding, totaling $1 million. He said the recommendation excludes funding for city-owned cultural assets such as the aquarium, Straz Center and the zoo, under the assumption council will continue those asset-level appropriations at current levels.
The presentation also noted that staff segregated development and economic opportunity funding (about $500,000) and that the recommended allocations mirror elements of the current-year program but at a reduced overall level because of the constrained general fund. There was no formal council vote during the presentation; the item was presented as staff's recommended budget for council consideration.
