The City of Laredo Planning and Zoning Commission voted to approve a rezoning request for Lots 1 and 2, Block 1071 Eastern Division (1901 Ligarde Street), changing the zoning from B‑1 Limited Business District to B‑3 Community Business District to allow an indoor reception hall.
Applicant Javier De Leon, who identified himself as the property owner, said he lives at the site and intends to use the building for small events on weekends. “It's just gonna be a small event… probably in the weekends,” De Leon said during public comment and indicated he was willing to accept parking and noise impacts as part of operating a reception hall at the location.
Staff reported that 14 notices were sent for the rezoning and that no letters for or against were received. Planning staff supported the proposed zone change and recommended approval; commissioners moved to close the public hearing and carried the motion to approve.
The commission’s approval will be forwarded to city council as part of the ordinance‑map amendment process for final action.
