The Planning Commission voted July 16 to schedule a public hearing on Aug. 6 to consider a mandatory referral to abandon a segment of Kenny Pipe Court right-of-way north of Joe B. Jackson Parkway. The request was made by the City of Murfreesboro Public Works Division to clear a remnant right-of-way created when Butler Drive was realigned.
Planning staff told commissioners the city and the Tennessee Department of Transportation both have interests in the corridor and that the city is proceeding with a separate right-of-way abandonment process while TDOT pursues its excess-rights-of-way review. Staff said it has solicited comments from utilities and affected city departments and will provide a summary of those comments at the public hearing.
Why it matters: Abandoning the remnant right-of-way will clear title interest for redevelopment and allow the South Transfer Station site plan to proceed with a coherent parcel boundary. The public hearing will permit property owners, utilities and other stakeholders to raise objections or conditions.
The commission moved to schedule the hearing for the Aug. 6 meeting. The roll call recorded aye votes from Miss Aberwater (recorded as present for the motion), Mr. Caron, Mr. Harris, Mr. Prince, Mr. Rollins, Mr. Wright and Chair Halliburton.
