The Kanawha County Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of Nearpod instructional software in an amount between $215,000 and $215,200 from Renaissance Learning, citing a quote in enclosure 16.
Board members said Nearpod has been in use in the district for several years and that expanded subject modules would be available this school year.
“This gives us the ability in our ELA and our math, and now they're gonna give us social studies and science free this year,” said Miss Riddle, a board member. “But we're able to add a lot of interactive activities into the lessons that we do, based on our curriculum.”
Board discussion and a subsequent voice vote approved the purchase without recorded amendments or conditions. The motion and second were made on the record, and the chair called the vote after brief discussion.
District staff told the board the tool has been used in virtual classes and that teachers have shared created activities countywide. The board did not detail a line-item funding source in the meeting discussion; the purchase was presented under new business with a corresponding enclosure.
The board did not specify an implementation timeline in public remarks during the meeting. If teachers or parents seek more detail on deployment schedules or training, the district’s curriculum office will be the contact point listed in the board packet.
