A representative of the county health department told commissioners July 18 that the department is recruiting an environmental specialist responsible for septic-system permitting, school inspections, vector control and some food inspections, with cover letters and resumes due to the department by July 27.

The health-department representative also addressed public concerns about measles, noting a measles case recently reported in Jefferson County, Kentucky, and clarifying that there are no measles cases in Jefferson County, Indiana. The department said it has posted guidance on social media to correct misinformation and relieve public concern.

Next steps: the health department will continue recruitment for the environmental specialist and monitor communicable-disease reports; public information will be updated as needed.
