Director Geary told the commission on July 22 that the Parks & Recreation Department has multiple summer and fall programs underway and provided dates and logistical details for staff and commissioners.
The update matters because the department operates city events, youth programming and facilities that affect commission scheduling and public participation.
Geary said the summer concert series continues with three more Sunday shows at 6 p.m.; the next performance will feature an "Eighties All Star" band. Movies in the park are ongoing; the department planned to show Moana 2 the next evening at Finkbinder Park at sundown. The teen program planned trips: a July 23 trip to Knott's Berry Farm (bus leaves the teen center at 9 a.m.; cost $50) and an Angels game trip on July 30 (bus leaves at 4 p.m.; cost $25).
Geary announced the Parks & Recreation main office will move from City Hall to the Transportation Building at 410 East Dalton in September while transportation staff relocate to the park yard. She said the fall brochure will be released in early August and online registration opens Tuesday, August 19.
The Community Services Foundation will host the fifth annual 0.5K walk on Saturday, September 20, beginning at City Hall and walking to Bennett and Glendora Avenues; Geary said registration opens August 1 on Eventbrite, costs $40 per person and the city hopes for 250 participants. The fee includes two drink tickets, entertainment and a taco dinner.
Geary listed other department activities, including staff luncheons for Parks and Recreation Month and plans to temporarily oversee day-to-day operations of the Transportation Division while offices move.
No formal action was taken on these informational items; commissioners thanked staff and encouraged community participation.
