The Climate Action Committee introduced a new student ambassador and welcomed a new student committee member at its July 16 meeting.
Student ambassador Britney Blair, a rising senior at Redwood High School, said she accepted the role to connect local high-school students with climate-resilience work. “I really want to draw a relation between the Redwood High School students or just broader high school students in the area to climate change and gain them actively seeking ways to better our environment,” Blair said.
Committee member Penelope Trott introduced herself earlier in the meeting. Trott said she is a senior at Redwood High School and has lived in Corte Madera for about 10 years. She said she is “super passionate about, like, combating climate change and doing everything we can as a community to, like, work together and make even a small difference.”
Staff told the committee they are pleased to add youth perspectives to outreach, event planning and communications. The student ambassador role has already participated in community outreach: staff said the ambassador joined the committee’s Fourth of July tabling event and will be involved in outreach planning for upcoming events.
Why this matters: the committee said adding a student ambassador and a student committee member provides a direct youth voice on outreach, education and program design and can help the town tailor materials and events for younger residents.
