The Statesboro City Council approved a set of resolutions and agreements to allow the city to receive Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP) funds. Council approved policies, procedures and program guidelines required by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), adopted the referenced Georgia statute requirements, and authorized execution of the state recipient agreement and addendum with the Georgia Housing and Finance Authority to accept CHIP grant funds. City staff said the city has operated a housing rehabilitation program for several years and that adopting DCA policies is a required step to receive funds for homeownership and related CHIP activities. Staff recommended approval to allow the city to access and administer the grant; council voted in favor of the resolutions and the agreement. Council members and staff characterized the action as a prerequisite for receiving federal/state program dollars; staff said the approved policies align the city’s procedures with DCA requirements and with GHFA contract terms.
