Long-term care division highlights employee engagement, wound-care partnership and music therapy renewal

Carrie Donovan, recently hired as the employee engagement supervisor, addressed the board and described her initial work. "So far I have been listening and watching and learning and getting to know everybody's systems," Donovan said, describing 30-day check-ins, shift outreach and plans for quick acknowledgment/recognition programs to improve retention and morale.
The board approved a one-year business-associate agreement with Hore Wound Solutions LLC to supply ostomy and wound products and related billing/authorization services; staff said the company also offers wound-certified nursing support to help troubleshoot nonhealing wounds and provide regulatory auditing. Staff said the arrangement would enable the county to bill insurance for some products and provide clinical consults through the vendor, reducing county expense for those supplies.
Commissioners also approved a renewal of a contract with Grand State Music for music-therapy services targeted to hospice residents, increasing hours so therapists can provide end-of-life support; staff explained the extra hours are intended to assist with symptom management during the final transition phase.
Discussion vs. decision: The employee engagement introduction was informational; the Hore Wound Solutions business-associate agreement and Grand State Music renewal were formal approvals recorded by the board. Commissioners praised staff outreach and noted that greater staff recognition and training (including potential wound-care training for nurses) were priorities to improve quality of care.
