By motion on July 15 the Germantown School District Board approved the annual notice posting of academic standards that will be in effect for the 2025–26 school year in literacy, mathematics, social studies and science for grades 2–12. District staff explained state statute requires the board to notify parents and guardians of the standards adopted for the coming year; the district’s practice is to post the adopted standards on the district website. Mr. Mesiak (Teaching & Learning) told the board the motion covers section 3 of the standards document (the actual standards) and that the district is not approving sections 1 and 2 of the state materials that some board members have criticized as interpretive guidance. Board members reiterated past positions that the board approves the standards to be used in district instruction but will not endorse ancillary interpretive materials produced by DPI. A motion to adopt the posted academic standards for the 2025–26 school year passed by voice vote.
