Board approves district asphalt work and district‑office refresh; committee outlines summer building tours

The Germantown School District Board on July 15 approved two facilities purchases recommended by the buildings & grounds and finance committees: district asphalt work and a refresh of the district office workspace. The board approved a recommendation to contract Johnson & Sons Paving to provide districtwide asphalt services not to exceed $158,030; the funds for that project were identified as coming from Fund 41 (capital improvements). Facility director Frank Lord briefed the committee on projects this year (including sealcoating, striping and one parking-lot repave) and explained the work prioritized under the district’s capital plan. Separately, the finance committee recommended, and the board approved, a district-office refresh using JL Business Interiors for furniture (not to exceed $37,291) and Premier Flooring for carpet (not to exceed $37,500), for a combined $74,791. Board members discussed the need to provide a safe, functional workspace for administrative staff and cited air‑quality concerns and worn carpeting as reasons for the refresh. The buildings & grounds committee also announced summer building tours of district schools: McArthur and Rockfield (early July), Peebles (July 8), Kennedy Middle School (July 22), and Germantown High School (July 29). The tours are open to the public and the committee said they are intended to review recent work and identify future needs from the district facilities condition report. Both purchases were approved by voice vote during the board meeting; board members emphasized that the projects are within the capital budget and the board expects ongoing reporting on long-term facilities needs.
