Board approves FY2026 budget after extended questions on local revenue and reserves

The Sweetwater County School District Board of Trustees approved the fiscal year 2026 budget on July 16 following a public hearing and discussion that highlighted lower enrollment projections, dropped county assessments and remaining uncertainty around federal funds. The board opened a public hearing on the budget, received a presentation from district finance staff and then reconvened to approve the budget as part of the consent agenda (consent item 8f). Trustees and staff focused their questions on several items in the budget book presented at the meeting. The district presenter said the FY2026 budget covers the period July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, and was built from the preliminary budget using historical costs, projections and judgment.
