Fargo Public Library reports strong summer reading kickoff, 1,500 registered and community time-capsule event planned

Megan, library staff member, told the Fargo Public Library Board of Directors on June 17 that the Summer Reading Program began earlier in the month and that the kickoff event drew about 400 attendees.
"So far we have about 1,500 people signed up," Megan said, and she said the program is being run through the Beanstack app. Staff are staging a series of 1970s‑themed events tied to a time capsule opening: Megan said the time capsule — buried during the Fargo‑Moorhead centennial celebration in 1975 — will be opened next Thursday in the plaza between the Library and the Civic Center, with food vendors and kids activities starting at 4 and the capsule opening at 5.
Megan outlined related programming across locations: tie‑dye sessions for children at all three library branches, a fashion show at the main library produced with Fargo Moorhead Community Theatre, a Brady Bunch movie screening paired with a craft session, and expanded craft offerings for teens and adults (needle felting and dyed-silk-scarf sessions at Carlson and Northport branches). She encouraged board members to participate and noted adult crafting events have been especially popular.
The board received the report as informational; there was no vote. Staff also noted planning for fall and other summer events continues.
