The Historic Resources Commission approved a revised landscape and site-improvement plan for 556 East Town Street at its July 17 meeting and required removal of an outdated sign as part of the approval.
Staff reviewed the revised planting plan and recommended approval of COA500672556 for site improvements subject to clarifications being submitted to HPO staff for administrative review. The applicant said existing trees would remain and described proposed shrubs, herbaceous plantings, river rock, gold-dust gravel, and limestone paver edging. Staff asked that the applicant hatch or otherwise clearly indicate proposed new materials and existing landscape on plan sheets.
Commissioners and the applicant confirmed that the sign previously associated with the site (for an earlier occupant) is no longer relevant. The commission explicitly required that the obsolete sign be removed; the applicant agreed and said they would apply for any new signage separately. The motion recorded the removal of the sign and approval of the landscape plan with the condition that any additional clarifications be submitted to staff for final review.
The commission’s approval referenced the city code and the HPO standards for site improvements (staff cited East City code 11 6.13 and guidelines for landscaping and site improvements). Staff will review the clarifying plan details and the applicant will complete the sign removal as a condition of the COA.
