City manager says Topeka tracking TMTA service‑area changes; vote set for June 23

The Topeka City manager told the Public Infrastructure Committee on June 17 that the city is tracking proposed service‑area and fee changes being considered by the Topeka Metropolitan Transit Authority (TMTA).
The city manager said TMTA has held public meetings about adjusting service areas and user costs. He told the committee TMTA’s vote on the change is scheduled for June 23 and that the authority will provide updates to the council on July 1 when the TMTA representatives are on the agenda to discuss the revenue neutral rate.
When asked about boundaries, the city manager said there is information available and that, as he understands it, “roughly a quarter of the area is going to be removed from the service area.” He committed to providing the committee and council with maps and details upon request.
Committee members said the proposed changes could affect their districts and encouraged constituent engagement during TMTA’s process. No formal action was taken by the committee; staff said they will continue to monitor and share information with the council.
