Resident urges county to inspect Katy Court apartments after elevator and building maintenance complaints

A Berkeley County resident urged county officials during public comment to inspect Katy Court apartments after describing slow elevator service, unclean common areas and concerns for residents with mobility and cardiac conditions. The resident, who identified himself as Mister Noll, said the building has one working elevator serving roughly 80 apartments and described waits of “10, 15 people at a time” for service. He said the building’s owner is out of state and that routine maintenance requests — including replacement of a burned-out light bulb in March — had not been handled promptly. “It's that slow,” he said of the elevator, adding the building manager “don't give a crap.” The resident also told commissioners the 97-year-old neighbor pays $60 a month for a Meals on Wheels service that he says that neighbor will not eat. Commission President responded that he would reach out to city building inspectors to see what could be done.
