Oxford City Council members voted to table two zoning matters and adopted one rezoning ordinance during the meeting.
The council accepted a request to table an ordinance to amend 2.71 acres at 1699 Fairfield Road from two‑family residential to multi‑family residential; an appellant asked for the postponement and council granted the tabling by voice vote. The council likewise moved to table a request for preliminary and final plan approval for senior housing at 6099 Fairfield Road after a motion to table was made and seconded.
Separately, council adopted an ordinance to amend 2.1 acres at 5234 Hester Road from single‑family medium‑density residential to single‑family residential. Staff member Sam told council an information session is planned for the development, which is being called New Roots Oxford. The rezoning passed on roll call; councilors present voted yes.
During announcements, City Manager Doug told council he had met with representatives related to the two tabled ordinances and that unresolved rental permits and inspections associated with the project owner remain an outstanding enforcement matter. Doug said the city plans to file complaints in court before the next council meeting if required to resolve unpaid permits and incomplete inspections. He urged separating the ordinance decisions from permitting enforcement and indicated staff had provided related documentation in an email to council.
The actions taken were procedural (tabling) for two items and final adoption for the Hester Road rezoning; the meeting record shows the tabling occurred at the appellant’s request and that staff will continue enforcement work related to rental permits and inspections.
