Rosemount honors two retiring firefighters; department to buy inflatable fire-safety house with donations

The Rosemount City Council on July 14 recognized the retirements of firefighter Greg Zeno and Captain Brad Miller, each marking about 22 years of service to the Rosemount Fire Department, and approved two private donations to support the department’s fire-safety education. Chief Springer described both men as foundational to the department and praised their leadership and training work.
Chief Mark Springer said the pair joined the department in January 2003 and “helped to build a strong foundation that our department stands on today.” He credited Greg Zeno with roles as a training officer and truck lieutenant and work on recruitment and grants, and noted that Zeno trains service dogs with Soldier 6 in retirement. Springer said Captain Brad Miller spent 16 years on the Dakota County Special Operations Team and was a longtime station captain and trainer.
The council approved accepting donations that staff said will be forwarded to the National Fire Safety Council to fund outreach and school programs, and applied part of the donations toward a newer, inflatable fire-safety house to replace an aging outdoor smokehouse prop. According to Chief Springer, the older prop had deteriorated from long use, exposure and animal damage; the inflatable model will allow the department to conduct indoor demonstrations in school gyms and broaden outreach.
Firefighter Greg Zeno told the council of the personal side of his career: “When people retire… most people don’t miss their job. They miss a people.” Captain Brad Miller said he loved training and leading and that he and his colleagues will miss the work.
During the consent-agenda votes the council approved formal acceptance motions for the donations and recorded roll-call approvals. Council members expressed thanks to the donors and to both retirees for their service. The new inflatable prop will be used during Fire Prevention Week and other educational events.
The council’s action was procedural acceptance of donations and recognition of retirements; no further policy changes were made at the meeting.
